RSM solid-carbide endmill

January 01, 2011

ATI Stellram introduces the RSM solid-carbide endmill for machining walls, pockets and surfaces in titanium aerospace components. The profiling endmill is manufactured from micrograin carbide substrate. The sharp honed cutting edge with specific primary and radial clearance angles provides stress-free penetration in the cut, and the reduced-diameter shank allows maximum reach and workholding stability, the company reports. Long and extra-long versions can be ordered.

Related Glossary Terms

  • clearance

    clearance

Space provided behind a tool’s land or relief to prevent rubbing and subsequent premature deterioration of the tool. See land; relief.

  • endmill

    endmill

Milling cutter held by its shank that cuts on its periphery and, if so configured, on its free end. Takes a variety of shapes (single- and double-end, roughing, ballnose and cup-end) and sizes (stub, medium, long and extra-long). Also comes with differing numbers of flutes.

  • profiling

    profiling

Machining vertical edges of workpieces having irregular contours; normally performed with an endmill in a vertical spindle on a milling machine or with a profiler, following a pattern. See mill, milling machine.

  • shank

    shank

Main body of a tool; the portion of a drill or similar end-held tool that fits into a collet, chuck or similar mounting device.
