It is for milling, turning and grooving heat-resistant superalloys, cast iron, nodular iron, ductile iron, steel and stainless steel at extreme feed rates and high cutting speeds, according to the company. It is suitable for interrupted cuts, scale removal, roughing, semifinishing and finishing.

The spark-free, heat-free tools enable users to make head changes in 30 seconds. The electric FMT Bevel Mate is capable of bevel depths up to ½" (12.7mm), and the pneumatic FMT Bevel Mite is capable of bevel depths up to ¼" (6.4mm).

Nachi America Inc. says its Aqua Drill EX Flat series provides one-step drilling. The drill eliminates the need for a center drill or endmill on inclined or curved surfaces. The 180° flat cutting edge creates a minimal exit burr. The tools feature the Aqua EX coating for enhanced heat and wear resistance. New fractional sizes will be available in May.

Sandvik Coromant Co. says the GC4305-grade insert maximizes metal-removal rates, shortens processing times and enhances component quality when turning steel. It is made of a heat-resistant cutting material that is suitable for dry machining, which is ideal for automotive part manufacturers that seek to avoid the stresses tools experience as a result of temperature fluctuations. Haas Automation recently expanded its drill, tap and mill product line with a pair of high-speed, lean-style machining centers—the DT-2 and DM-2—that reportedly provide the same high acceleration rates, fast axis speeds and short tool change times as their smaller brethren. Yet, the new machines offer an additional 8" (203mm) of X-axis travel and table length, with only a slight increase in footprint.
