Special Soft Top Jaws

June 01, 2014

Turned or bored soft blank top jaws from Dillon manufacturing provide a smooth gripping surface that holds the work piece snugly as a result of a greater coefficient of friction with no marring of the workpiece. Extra wide jaws are available to provide a wider gripping surface, especially for large diameter parts.

Dillon serrated soft top jaws are available up to 10" in height. Tongue-and-groove, Acme key style, or square serrated style jaws can be produced to 14" in height, so they are well suited for longer work pieces. Dillon Manufacturing uses optical checking to ensure proper pitch and form on their mounting serrations. Special soft top jaws are ideal for second operation finishing work such as shafts, gear blanks, wheel hub, bearings, or extra-long work pieces which require special attention and handling.

Soft blank top jaws can be removed and later reused for the same operation or by machining to grip a different part until the blank is completely consumed. Special soft jaws have production lead times of 3 days or less. They can be produced from 1018, 4140, 8620, 1045, A2, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and plastic.

Dillon Manufactures special top jaws to customer specifications, providing approval prints for each order, and certification of materials, processes and heat treat upon request. Company engineers work with customers to provide jaws that meet particular design and production requirements.
