SA Series for Grooving, Parting

ARNO Werkzeuge USA announced the introduction of its SA series of cutting tools and inserts for grooving and part-off or cut-off operations for North America. The SA system from Arno USA is a modular grooving system with a single toolholder, which turns into different tool variants by simply changing the support blade and clamp. Enabling combined operations with just one tool, ARNO grooving systems offer chip removal in all three main cutting directions. The SA range also features precision-ground two- or three-edged cutting inserts in various designs, different shapes and types, which gives the best cutting performance, speed and efficiency, according to the company.

The SA range of cutting tools and inserts from ARNO USA specializes in parting-off or cut-off operation in machining, metalworking and plastics applications. The series comes in three unique systems to accommodate the requirements of various machining operations and customers in aerospace, plastics and medical industries.

The SA series includes a monoblock, modular and blade style system. It is a cost-effective solution for radial grooving as well as parting-off up to 5.512" (140mm) in diameter. The SA monoblock holder is used with a wide range of double-sided inserts including the Arno SA16, SA17, SA24, SA35 und SA40 in .059" (1.5mm), .079" (2mm), .118" (3mm), .157" (4mm), .197" (5mm), .236" (6mm), .315 " (8mm) und .394" (10mm) widths.

Martin Gardner, president of ARNO Werkzeuge USA, adds, “Now with the new SA family from ARNO USA, customers can choose from and utilize an extensive range of cost-effective, cut-off or part-off cutting tools and inserts for demanding metal cutting and plastics applications in machine shop operations.”

Related Glossary Terms

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.

  • depth of cut

    depth of cut

Distance between the bottom of the cut and the uncut surface of the workpiece, measured in a direction at right angles to the machined surface of the workpiece.

  • grooving

    grooving

Machining grooves and shallow channels. Example: grooving ball-bearing raceways. Typically performed by tools that are capable of light cuts at high feed rates. Imparts high-quality finish.

  • metalworking

    metalworking

Any manufacturing process in which metal is processed or machined such that the workpiece is given a new shape. Broadly defined, the term includes processes such as design and layout, heat-treating, material handling and inspection.

  • shank

    shank

Main body of a tool; the portion of a drill or similar end-held tool that fits into a collet, chuck or similar mounting device.

  • toolholder

    toolholder

Secures a cutting tool during a machining operation. Basic types include block, cartridge, chuck, collet, fixed, modular, quick-change and rotating.
