ZOLLER Inc. welcomed manufacturing professionals from a range of industry verticals to its North American headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for Automation Days on Aug. 9 and 10, 2023. Customers and industry leaders highlighted the unique solutions ZOLLER offers to automate cutting tool management and establish more resilient, reliable processes in the face of a labor shortage that is expected to leave 2.1 million jobs unfilled by 2030.

Not all titanium is alike. Depending on whether it is pure titanium or alloyed titanium, the chip removing process behavior differs. During a tour of the NSK America booth at Eastec 2023, Senior Product Manager Greg Nottoli showcased the company's CTS-3030 high-speed, ultra-precise electric spindle designed to seamlessly transport coolant through the cutting tool.

ARCH Cutting Tools Marketing Director Rachel Dresser took time during Eastec 2023 to highlight the company's product series for KEO, Ultra-Dex, Patriot High Performance, and Revere, as well as its RECON360 remanufacturing service.

Steven Baier, vice president of sales for Haimer USA, demonstrated a couple of heat-shrink machines during Eastec 2023: the Power Clamp Premium i4.0 and the Power Clamp Air i4.0 Economic.

Rollomatic Inc.'s Brian Twohey, national sales manager, highlighted a couple of machines while at Eastec: the GrindSmart 660XW, a six-axis tool and cutter grinder, and the Strausak ONE linear CNC tool grinder.

Marubeni Citizen-Cincom Sales Engineer James Sabatino took a few minutes at Eastec 2023 to showcase the Cincom L32 XII Swiss-type CNC automatic lathe that features nine cutting axes and an automatic toolchanger.

Jack Burley, president and COO of BIG DAISHOWA Inc., took time during Eastec 2023 to highlight a number of the company's products, including tooling technology focused on trochoidal milling, high-precision fine boring heads with digital readouts, and the BIG-PLUS spindle system that is designed so the shank contacts the spindle taper and the spindle face at the same time.

Tom Bruders, regional sales manager for UNISIG deep hole drilling systems, discussed the company's UNE6 2i gundrilling machines that feature automation options and two independent spindles, and are aimed at the medical manufacturing market.

During Eastec 2023, Kevin Swint, territory sales representative for VEKTEK, highlighted the company's new Auto-Coupler device for automating the hydraulic connection from the power supply to a workholding fixture, as well as VEKTEK's Advanced Automation Workholding Pump.

George Brown, Northeast and Southeast regional manager for Vollmer of America Corp., took a few minutes during Eastec 2023 to discuss some of the features of the company's new VGrind argon machine.

A hands-on educational program designed to spread awareness about careers in manufacturing, Camp CHAMP debuted as part of the Leyden Student Summit held last month at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois. Of the 170 middle school students who signed up for the two-day summer career-oriented educational event, 30 chose to experience first-hand what it takes to make pens out of wood using tabletop machinery. The students watched and assisted with various operations as they moved from one station to the next. There was a tabletop lathe, a rotary grinder, a tabletop milling machine, an assembly station, a laser marking machine and, finally, an inspection system.

The design’s strengthened cutting edge not only extends tool life but works well in non-rigid applications where other geometries may not be as suitable. The drill heads are available in IC948 TiAlCrN PVD grade coating in the following size range 394” to .866” in .004” increments. The IC948 coating applied on a hard cemented carbide sub-micron substrate offers high oxidation and chipping resistance due to the special multi-layer structure of the coating.
