CorShield VpCI-146 Paper Premium Vapor Corrosion Inhibiting (VCI) Paper

As many manufacturers and suppliers across the globe are gradually reopening and recovering from the pandemic fallout, it is a good time to step back, reevaluate processes, and find simple improvements to materials and methods. For those in basic metal industries, using Cortec® Corporation’s CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper is an excellent way to replace inferior rust inhibitor paper or streamline labor by eliminating traditional rust preventative oils and greases.

CorShield® VpCI®- 146 Paper is the industry’s premium vapor corrosion inhibiting (VCI) paper. It offers effective protection to ferrous and nonferrous metals, eliminating the need to stock a variety of papers for different metal types. All that is needed is to wrap items in the paper and fold the edges together, using adhesive tape as needed to hold paper in place. The VpCI® coating on the paper vaporizes, reaching all metal surfaces within the package to provide complete corrosion protection with a very thin, very effective VpCI® layer that does not alter product appearance or require removal before further finishing or use. Effective protection is available on both sides of the paper to eliminate packaging guesswork.

CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper can be used alone or in conjunction with other corrosion inhibiting materials depending on specific storage or shipping needs. Here are some examples of how it has been used:

  • Wrapping coils of new copper pipe in CorShield® VpCI®-146 before covering with ordinary plastic film for protection during storage and shipping in an extremely humid environment.

  • Packing freezer and refrigerator compressors in CorShield® VpCI®-146 paper and plastic bags to eliminate treatment with common oil and reduce handling time.

  • Wrapping 105 mm ammunition in CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper and absorbent material to help an overseas military entity eliminate the risk of spontaneous explosion from components corroding in a tropical atmosphere, while saving approximately 900,000 USD (estimated) per year.

  • Providing transport protection for competition firearms by simply treating trigger devices with VpCI®-325 and wrapping the rifles in CorShield® VpCI®- 146 Paper instead of using mineral oil, grease, and silica gel.

  • Wrapping bearings in CorShield® VpCI®- 146 Paper for basic spare parts protection for a nuclear power company.

In addition to easier handling and cleanup, two more excellent reasons to use CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper are as follows: 1) CorShield® VpCI®-146 Paper is made from 100% recycled content paper and is fully recyclable/repulpable. 2) It contains 92% USDA certified biobased content

and is a qualified product under the mandatory federal purchasing initiative of the USDA BioPreferred® Program.*

From copper pipes to compressors to ammunition, CorShield® VpCI®- 146 can go a long way toward providing critical corrosion protection. With manufacturers gearing up again, now is a great opportunity to re- evaluate packaging processes and discover new ways to save time and labor while effectively protecting goods against the damage of corrosion.
