The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration launched two new Web resources to assist companies with keeping their workers safe from exposure to hazardous chemicals. While many chemicals are suspected of being harmful, OSHA's exposure standards are out-of-date and inadequately protective for the small number of chemicals that are regulated in the workplace. The first resource OSHA has created is a toolkit to identify safer chemicals that can be used in place of more hazardous ones.

Miyachi Unitek Corp., a Monrovia, Calif. manufacturer of welding equipment and laser processing systems, has changed its corporate name to Miyachi America Corp. The name change aligns Miyachi Unitek with other Miyachi Corp. companies around the world. The company will continue to use the Miyachi Unitek brand name.

Control Gaging recently broke ground on a new Ann Arbor, Mich., facility, where the company will engineer and manufacture precision measurement systems for the machining industry. The company, which has outgrown its current location, is building a new 24,500-sq.-ft. facility.

What is run-out? Run out is differences or variations in the diameter of a cutting tool at certain points along the outside edge while the tool is rotating. When an end mill is in rotation it is important that each tooth hits at the exact same spot along the work piece. If one tooth is hitting the work piece more than the others then that tooth is doing the bulk of the work. This will cause the end mill to wear and breakdown more quickly.
