GF Machining Solutions LLCGF Machining Solutions LLC, Lincolnshire, Ill., named Ellison Technologies Inc., Los Angeles, as its distributor to serve customers in Indiana. Ellison Technologies will provide manufacturers throughout the state with GF Machining Solutions' full array of EDM, milling, laser texturing, additive, micromachining and 3R Automation solutions, as well as a wide variety of machine tool consumables.

GF Machining Solutions selected Ellison Technologies based on the company's ability to provide extensive service and support to customers and to offer more comprehensive coverage in the Indiana market. Customers in automotive, aerospace, medical, die-mold and other industries will benefit from easier access to demonstration centers and larger sales and support teams that can work in conjunction with GF Machining Solutions to give timely front-line service and application support on equipment.

The partnership between GF Machining Solutions and Ellison Technologies continues to grow as the companies work together to help manufacturers address many of today's toughest manufacturing challenges. Earlier this year, GF Machining Solutions named Ellison Technologies as its distributor to serve customers in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in addition to Ellison Technologies' coverage of the West Coast.

"We are very happy that our partnership with Ellison has expanded to include Indiana," said Scott Fosdick, president of GF Machining Solutions. "As one of the largest machine tool distributors in North America, with an office centrally located in Indianapolis, they are well-positioned to help us deliver the highest level of service and support to our Hoosier customers throughout the entire life cycle of their machine tools."

"GF Machining Solutions' high-speed milling, EDM and laser machine solutions are excellent complements to our product offerings," said Graham Hooper, president and CEO of Ellison Technologies. "This growing partnership creates many opportunities for us to provide the advanced technologies our customers need to make them become more globally competitive."

Related Glossary Terms

  • centers

    centers

Cone-shaped pins that support a workpiece by one or two ends during machining. The centers fit into holes drilled in the workpiece ends. Centers that turn with the workpiece are called “live” centers; those that do not are called “dead” centers.

  • electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

    electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

Process that vaporizes conductive materials by controlled application of pulsed electrical current that flows between a workpiece and electrode (tool) in a dielectric fluid. Permits machining shapes to tight accuracies without the internal stresses conventional machining often generates. Useful in diemaking.

  • gang cutting ( milling)

    gang cutting ( milling)

Machining with several cutters mounted on a single arbor, generally for simultaneous cutting.

  • milling

    milling

Machining operation in which metal or other material is removed by applying power to a rotating cutter. In vertical milling, the cutting tool is mounted vertically on the spindle. In horizontal milling, the cutting tool is mounted horizontally, either directly on the spindle or on an arbor. Horizontal milling is further broken down into conventional milling, where the cutter rotates opposite the direction of feed, or “up” into the workpiece; and climb milling, where the cutter rotates in the direction of feed, or “down” into the workpiece. Milling operations include plane or surface milling, endmilling, facemilling, angle milling, form milling and profiling.
