Workholding

How Mate Workholding Became United Machine’s Go-To Vise

Workholding is a critical component of any reliable machining setup. Poor workholding can lead to longer setup and cycle times, increased scrap and tool wear, and more rework. It was just such a scenario that prompted John Robinette, owner of United Machine Company, to shop for alternative workholding options that would ensure consistency and quality in the components it manufactures for the aerospace industry.

Lyndex-Nikken IMTS 2024 Booth Visit

Tom Dang, vice president of Lyndex-Nikken, introduces a new workholding product aimed at improving shop throughput. The presentation highlights its zero point system, known for its compact design and high repeatability. The video also showcases reversible jaws for different workpieces and a user-friendly tombstone automation system. The insights emphasize incremental investment in automation, allowing one operator to efficiently manage multiple machines.

Carbide-Tipped, Serrated Grippers

The body of the hex head style (CTH) is made from a Grade 8 fastener (metric 10.9) steel with a black oxide finish. The round head type (AG) is made from heat-treated alloy steel with black oxide finish. The tool steel threaded style (HS) is made from M-2 high speed steel and hardened to Rc 55/58 with black oxide finish. The carbide-tipped threaded style (PG) is made from heat-treated alloy steel with black oxide finish.

QCPSS Heavy Duty Sliding Locks

Two tip types of the QCPSS are available: A flat tip that helps minimize damage to an object, and a diamond-surface tip that provides high holding force. Both versions provide 247 lb. clamping force. The clamp body is made from 303 stainless steel. The handle is made from 304 stainless steel. The sliding locks are supplied with two M4 socket head screws for mounting.

Hardinge takes action to facilitate sale process and continue industry leadership

Hardinge Inc., a global leader and provider of advanced machine tool, manufacturing, and workholding solutions, has entered into an agreement in principle on an asset purchase agreement (APA) with an affiliate of Centre Lane Partners to sell substantially all of the company’s business lines’ operations and assets.

Quarter-Turn Clamping Fastener

The flat clamping fastener, with machining spacing tolerance of ±0.1 and repeatability of ±0.3, is made to pair with a locking receptacle, which is available separately. Plate thickness of 6 mm or more can be used with the fastener and receptacle. A clamping and holding force as high as 6.7 lb. (30N) can be achieved.
