Multifunctional Guide to Milling Technology

The POKOLM GUIDE app is a "smart access" to the mobile world of POKOLM Frästechnik GmbH & Co. KG. With just a single app, POKOLM offers a broad array of sophisticated functions for users of milling technology, with each of them being a useful tool in your daily work. Once it is installed, you have all important functions at your fingertips, even without connection to the Internet.

  • Cutting data calculator: The logically structured and easy-to-operate cutting data calculator is a versatile assistant for all milling applications.
  • Search function: Choose between four different search options – all of which are equally convenient and easy to understand:
    • Product tree: Milling cutter bodies, solid carbide milling cutters, as well as arbors and adapters, in the same clear structure which is familiar from our Catalogue and webshop. All milling cutters are supplied with detailed cutting data and a direct link
      to the cutting data calculator.
    • Search function: Limit your product search according to material, technology, tool and existing machine configuration by way of intuitive parameter settings. Here, too, the values of the finally selected tool are then imported into the cutting data calculator.
    • Full text search: Enables you to browse the whole range of products; in addition, further products suitable for combination with the selected article are displayed.
    • Product configurator: Convenient parameter selection with reference to the machine, technology, tool or even the geometry data of the workpiece to be machined; in the result, all meaningful combinations of milling cutters, inserts, arbors and adapters to achieve the desired milling result are displayed.
  • A scanner has been implemented to scan QR and barcodes. If you scan the barcode on the packaging of POKOLM inserts, for example, you are taken to the appropriate cutting material in the product database and can find detailed cutting data for all material and machining options almost instantly. If selected, they are then imported directly into the cutting data calculator.
  • Wish list: Highlight products with a star to add them to your wish list.

If you are connected to the Internet, the photos and drawings of all tools can be zoomed. CAM data in various formats are available for download or can be sent via e-mail as an attachment.

POKOLM GUIDE is a subject of continuous further development and is also adapted to new generations of devices and operating systems. Initially published for Apple devices, the programmers are already working on an Android version, which will be available as of mid 2017, according to information from the manufacturer.

Related Glossary Terms

  • computer-aided manufacturing ( CAM)

    computer-aided manufacturing ( CAM)

Use of computers to control machining and manufacturing processes.

  • gang cutting ( milling)

    gang cutting ( milling)

Machining with several cutters mounted on a single arbor, generally for simultaneous cutting.

  • milling

    milling

Machining operation in which metal or other material is removed by applying power to a rotating cutter. In vertical milling, the cutting tool is mounted vertically on the spindle. In horizontal milling, the cutting tool is mounted horizontally, either directly on the spindle or on an arbor. Horizontal milling is further broken down into conventional milling, where the cutter rotates opposite the direction of feed, or “up” into the workpiece; and climb milling, where the cutter rotates in the direction of feed, or “down” into the workpiece. Milling operations include plane or surface milling, endmilling, facemilling, angle milling, form milling and profiling.

  • milling cutter

    milling cutter

Loosely, any milling tool. Horizontal cutters take the form of plain milling cutters, plain spiral-tooth cutters, helical cutters, side-milling cutters, staggered-tooth side-milling cutters, facemilling cutters, angular cutters, double-angle cutters, convex and concave form-milling cutters, straddle-sprocket cutters, spur-gear cutters, corner-rounding cutters and slitting saws. Vertical cutters use shank-mounted cutting tools, including endmills, T-slot cutters, Woodruff keyseat cutters and dovetail cutters; these may also be used on horizontal mills. See milling.
