Lightning Cool

April 01, 2010

Tanis Technologies has what you need to be able to put an end to replacing spindle drive belts, drawbar components, rubber motor mounts, through-spindle coolant seals and more with its Lightning Cool system. This system fixes several problems related to the Fadal drawbar system and it adapts a Deublin rotary coolant union to the factory Fadal spindle and provides reliable through-spindle coolant that will not leak coolant onto your belts and other critical components like the factory system does, according to the company. Fadal engineers credited the Lightning Cool system for fixing seven out of the nine most common problems with Fadal machines, which is why they made this system a factory option in 2008.

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
