3n1-Rounds

June 01, 2010

Ingersoll Cutting Tools' 3n1-Rounds series 45D...RP solid-carbide roughing endmills feature not only high-feed geometry but variable pitch and chip splitters, as well. This series covers a range of applications including slotting, pocketing, helical interpolation and contouring. Four- and 5-flute versions are available with a 38-degree helix and large corner radii to enable high-feed milling. The serrated cutting edge features flat peaks, which leave a fine surface finish. Diameters range from 0.250" to 0.750" and are supplied in all-purpose grade IN2005.

Related Glossary Terms

  • flat ( screw flat)

    flat ( screw flat)

Flat surface machined into the shank of a cutting tool for enhanced holding of the tool.

  • gang cutting ( milling)

    gang cutting ( milling)

Machining with several cutters mounted on a single arbor, generally for simultaneous cutting.

  • interpolation

    interpolation

Process of generating a sufficient number of positioning commands for the servomotors driving the machine tool so the path of the tool closely approximates the ideal path. See CNC, computer numerical control; NC, numerical control.

  • milling

    milling

Machining operation in which metal or other material is removed by applying power to a rotating cutter. In vertical milling, the cutting tool is mounted vertically on the spindle. In horizontal milling, the cutting tool is mounted horizontally, either directly on the spindle or on an arbor. Horizontal milling is further broken down into conventional milling, where the cutter rotates opposite the direction of feed, or “up” into the workpiece; and climb milling, where the cutter rotates in the direction of feed, or “down” into the workpiece. Milling operations include plane or surface milling, endmilling, facemilling, angle milling, form milling and profiling.

  • pitch

    pitch

    1. On a saw blade, the number of teeth per inch. 2. In threading, the number of threads per inch.

  • slotting

    slotting

Machining, normally milling, that creates slots, grooves and similar recesses in workpieces, including T-slots and dovetails.

High axial rake reduces cutting loads and promotes smooth machining.

In addition to operating on narrow grooving on typical CNC lathes, the new V-shaped TDMV inserts are suitable with a wide range of applications on Swiss automatic lathes, with a concentration on miniature product machining. The V-shaped TDMV insert line is a multi-purpose option and the optimal…

Tangentially mounted inserts allow for smooth uniform chip formation at high feed rates. The patented end-station fully supports the insert for reliable operation and unobstructed chip evacuation. End station inserts are available from .031 to .250 corner radius with zero cutter body modifications.

hi-feed milling performance for machining of miniature components and smaller part features. NanoFeed is a 20° hi-feed indexable insert design that will replace smaller diameter solid carbide end mills in many applications and offer great economy! Inserts have been designed with pressed-in coolant…

The insert pocket is designed with dovetailed seating over a large contact area, which extends cutting edge life, cutter body life cycle, stability, and support under the most aggressive cutting conditions. Inserts are offered in 2 styles: economical pressed complete and a precision ground profile.

Key features include four insert sizes, grades for all materials, three different cutting-edge preparation options, super strong radius high feed insert geometry, fine and coarse pitch cutters. The 4mm, 6mm, 9mm and 11mm inserts offer depth of cut ranges of .5mm, 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm, respectively.

CeraSFeed features two unique double-sided indexable insert styles: LNXF09 and TNXN12. LNXF09 offers a 1.5mm depth of cut and 4 cutting edges. TNXN12 offers a 2.5mm depth of cut and 6 cutting edges. Both inserts are offered in grade IN76N, a highly engineered SiAlON ceramic grade having excellent…

It represents a highly productive alternative to conventional turning where 80° & 35° corner inserts are fed in the same direction, and instead utilizes all 4 directions available on conventional 2 axis lathe (+Z, -Z, +X, -X) to maximize material removal.  The double-sided positive SuperTurnZ…
