Measuring/Inspecting

The RFP projects a fringe pattern onto the part surface and the probe’s camera captures the variation in fringe pattern to build a point cloud of 3D surface data. The data cloud is then evaluated by the 3D metrology software to deliver the inspection results. Non-contact structured light inspection with the RFP delivers clear advantages over traditional tactile probing techniques for freeform surfaces and complex geometry, such as additively manufactured parts, aerospace blades and blisks, automotive cylinder head combustion chambers, and delicate surfaces not suited to tactile measurement. 

With the measurement of compressed and non-corrosive gases, it reliably displays three parameters at once by measuring the flow, pressure, and temperature. In doing so, it saves the customer money through improved energy management with the reliable detection of leaks. This new flow sensor is also very lightweight and compact, making it ideal for installation in tight spaces.

It is best suited to the scanning of large parts with lower detail requirements, such as automotive parts.

With magnetic tape adhered along the entire length of the linear guide, the IMScompact determines the position of the runner block by means of noncontact measurement, with an absolute precision of ±20 μm per meter and a repetition accuracy of ±1 μm at speeds of up to 5 m/s. 

Precision positioning of the sample is a must for accurate results when using an inverted microscope. PI provides options with high stability motorized stages for long travel ranges with wide dynamic range, manual sample positioning / prepositioning, piezo scanning stages, and z-positioning / vertical stages to move the sample or the objective.

The L.S. Starrett Co. has introduced a newly designed rotary table springs force tester. The system is setup to test multiple springs in a single setup without the need for additional operator input as required when springs are tested one by one. The batch testing volume production approach saves time and significantly increases test throughput, while freeing up the operator to attend to other jobs.

Marposs has announced the availability of its Aeroel MecLab.X laser micrometer systems, providing ultrahigh accuracy diameter measurements for components such as electric motor shafts, gage or piston pins, hydraulic components or any number of ground or turned parts. The benchtop Meclab.X systems require no PC, making them highly suitable for the workshop environment and for most common applications.

Mitutoyo America Corp. announces the release of the new M2 2D processor as part of a new package with the PH-3515 Profile Projector. The M2 2D processor updates the PH-3515 Profile Projector with a new touch screen tablet and easier 2D processing for measuring dimensions.

Heidenhain introduces a new mid-range high accuracy ring encoder that is suitable for position measurement applications that require high tolerance to contamination but do not demand the accuracy level of an optical encoder. This unique ERM 2203 is optimized to meet those needs and is a welcome alternative to the market.

Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division launched the RS-Squared Area Scanner for the Absolute Arm – pairing for the first time an area scanner with a portable measurement arm. Designed for high-speed scanning of simple shapes and surfaces, the RS-Squared can measure parts faster than conventional laser scanners and even other structured light scanners.
