Drilling Versatility with the DRV Magic Drill
What do you do when you have a 0.688" diameter drill and you need a 0.697" diameter hole? This sort of question is common in shops that have a limited selection of cutting tools. Kyocera's DRV Magic Drill series can accomplish a radial offset to drill larger than the existing tool. The 0.697" hole shown was drilled in 1018 steel with a S100-DRV0688-5-05. Inserts were SCMT060205XMECA520D and SCMT060210XMIPR1535. Speeds and feeds used were 390 SFM, F.0016 IPR. The surface finish is very good due to excellent chip evacuation.
