Tri-Ten

June 01, 2010

A compact, wet Tri-Ten planetary head deburring system is available from Abtex Corp. in a return-to-operator configuration. The system deburrs both sides of flat parts up to 4.5" in diameter in a single pass using three Abtex fiber abrasive brushes. The workpiece is drenched in coolant as it is deburred to keep parts clean and extend brush life. After both sides of a part are deburred, it passes under a final coolant rinse, followed by an air knife to remove excess coolant, and is demagnetized before exiting at an opening next to the entrance.

  • abrasive

    abrasive

Substance used for grinding, honing, lapping, superfinishing and polishing. Examples include garnet, emery, corundum, silicon carbide, cubic boron nitride and diamond in various grit sizes.

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.

  • flat ( screw flat)

    flat ( screw flat)

Flat surface machined into the shank of a cutting tool for enhanced holding of the tool.
