Sandvik Coromant Tooling

April 01, 2010

Puma MX mill/turn machines from Doosan can now be equipped with Coromant Capto machine-adapted clamping units designed for the lower turret for faster and safer tool changes with greater tooling rigidity, according to the company. The tool selection consists of OD, ID and face clamping units for static tools. Driven tools for OD and facemilling and drilling are available. Double Coromant Capto clamping units are also available to address the subspindle as well as the main spindle. According to the manufacturer, these machine adapted clamping units provide better performance and faster tool changes. The units are ready-equipped to channel high-pressure coolant (80 bar or 1160 psi) to the cutting heads.

Related Glossary Terms

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.

  • facemilling

    facemilling

Form of milling that produces a flat surface generally at right angles to the rotating axis of a cutter having teeth or inserts both on its periphery and on its end face.

  • inner diameter ( ID)

    inner diameter ( ID)

Dimension that defines the inside diameter of a cavity or hole. See OD, outer diameter.

  • outer diameter ( OD)

    outer diameter ( OD)

Dimension that defines the exterior diameter of a cylindrical or round part. See ID, inner diameter.
