Augmented Reality Function Connects Digital World to Real World

Schneeberger Linear Technology presents its comprehensive range bundled in its new virtual showroom, thus enabling a spatially and temporally independent 3D experience. If required, a virtual assistant will guide you through the diversity of Schneeberger's products, or visitors can move around the virtual trade fair stand individually. The company is also going one digital step further. A new Augmented Reality (AR) function in the proven CAD configurator connects the digital world to the real world. This allows products to be placed in the machine or device before installation and then realistically viewed on a smartphone over an app. Maintenance specialists or service technicians can use it to more quickly find the required linear bearing live and on site.

The virtual showroom – from overview to detailed product information

Personal interaction between exhibitors and visitors at a trade fair is almost impossible to replace. But if the live event is too far away or does not fit into your schedule, virtual options are becoming increasingly available. The new virtual showroom was therefore modeled on a real trade fair stand and includes the fully digitized product range.

The visitor can intuitively get an overview of the products, browse catalogs, find detailed product information, download instructions, access CAD data and contact the consulting team via chat. Depending on their preferences, users can navigate directly to the desired product group or be guided by the visual display. The product and manufacturing range includes linear bearings and profiled linear guideways as well as measuring systems, gear racks, slides, positioning systems, mineral casting and ball screws. These products are used worldwide in the machine tool industry, in medical technology, the semiconductor and electrical industry and the test and measuring system industry in the laboratory sector.

CAD configurator with AR functionality – check spare parts easily

Schneeberger goes one step further in the digitization of its tools. A new AR function in the CAD configurator merges the digital world with the real world. Users such as design engineers configure 3D CAD models on their computers, smartphones or tablets just as they did before and then download them in various CAD formats. The configured CAD model can now be displayed in the video function of a smartphone or tablet using AR support. This makes it possible to project the digital 3D CAD model into the real world. Maintenance specialists and service technicians can easily check the "problem child" on site and see whether the selected and configured product fits into the installation space. The AR function is particularly time-saving when there is no longer any documentation available from older machines and devices to fall back on when searching for spare parts.
