Variaxis C-600 5-Axis Machining Center

Introduced to the U.S. market, the Variaxis C-600 from Mazak Corp. is an advanced 5-axis solution with a wide variety of optional features, automation-ready machine enclosure, operator-friendly ergonomic design and significantly improved productivity. This all-new machine leverages 40% faster rapid traverse rates, 4.5 second chip-to-chip automatic toolchanger, double-ended tilting table and robust C-frame construction for shorter noncut times and faster cycle times.

The newest CNC within Mazak’s Smooth Technology platform, the Mazatrol SmoothAi control represents the culmination of decades of research into machine connectivity, manufacturing automation and process optimization. Featuring a Mazatrol SmoothAi configured specifically for 5-axis machining, the Variaxis C-600 also has access to a wide range of functions, from the digital synchronization made possible through Mazatrol Twins to artificial-intelligence-powered machining modules like Smooth Ai Spindle and Ai Thermal Shield.

Related Glossary Terms

  • automatic toolchanger

    automatic toolchanger

Mechanism typically included in a machining center that, on the appropriate command, removes one cutting tool from the spindle nose and replaces it with another. The changer restores the used tool to the magazine and selects and withdraws the next desired tool from the storage magazine. The changer is controlled by a set of prerecorded/predetermined instructions associated with the part(s) to be produced.

  • computer numerical control ( CNC)

    computer numerical control ( CNC)

Microprocessor-based controller dedicated to a machine tool that permits the creation or modification of parts. Programmed numerical control activates the machine’s servos and spindle drives and controls the various machining operations. See DNC, direct numerical control; NC, numerical control.

  • rapid traverse

    rapid traverse

Movement on a CNC mill or lathe that is from point to point at full speed but, usually, without linear interpolation.

  • toolchanger

    toolchanger

Carriage or drum attached to a machining center that holds tools until needed; when a tool is needed, the toolchanger inserts the tool into the machine spindle. See automatic toolchanger.
