Fixtureworks® (Fraser, MI) a leading North American manufacturer and supplier of clamps, fixturing accessories, machine tool components and rollers & bumpers, now offers a line of OD/ID form holding clamps. OD form holding clamps are designed to clamp onto the circumference of oddly shaped workpieces, while ID clamps are designed to clamp onto the inside of workpieces and are ideal for parts with varying inside diameters. These form holding clamps come in a variety of configurations including round, square, wedge and concentric styles as well as mini or standard sizes.
For OD clamping, the aluminum jaws can be machined to custom fit the workpiece. For ID clamping, the workpiece is placed over ID jaws, which expand outward using a tapered pin (available separately). The part repeatability is +/- 0.03 mm, and the jaw locating repeatability of +/-0.02 mm.
Square style OD clamps hold on the circumference of slender workpieces. The aluminum
jaws are designed to be machined to custom fit contoured or odd shaped parts. When the clamp is tightened, both jaws move towards the center clamping the circumference workpiece. These clamps allow for part repeatability of +/- 0.08 mm.
Round wedge style OD clamps also hold on the circumference of a workpiece. The aluminum jaws are designed to be machined to custom fit contoured or odd shaped parts. When the clamp is tightened, both jaws move towards the center clamping the circumference of the workpiece.
The compact concentric style OD clamps provide high clamping force and are applicable for small workpieces as small as 2.5 mm diameter. The machinable, collet-shaped jaw can be machined to custom fit the workpiece. The clamp is also applicable for long workpieces by machining completely through. Indicators on the cap are guides to read the rotation degree for torque control without a torque wrench.
Wedge style ID clamps allow for holding the inside of workpieces. The steel jaws are forced outward as the cap screw is tightened. Because the clamp expands and wedges against the I.D. of the workpiece, they are ideal for parts that have variations of inside diameters such as cast iron or rough finish holes. The clamp makes a line at contact with the workpiece in the clamping mode. The contact can mar the surface of the workpiece depending on the material. Using these clamps for accurately finished holes is not recommended.
Mini Style clamps holds the workpieces on the ID while tightening the hex screw expands the jaws outward and downward, preventing workpiece lift. The contact can mar the surface of the workpiece, depending on the material. Using these clamps for accurately finished holes is not recommended.
In addition to form holding clamps Fixtureworks offers quick change pneumatic clamping fasteners, quick action sliding locks spring plunger clamps, handle and levers, knobs and grips, equipment handles, hand wheels and cranks, hinges and latches, leveling supports, industrial rubber bumpers, stops and wheels, fixture clamps, clamping locating systems, work positioning elements, vises, grippers and mechanical linear actuators.
