Carbinite Coating Doubles the Gripping Strength of Jaws

Dillon Manufacturing introduces Carbinite, a wear-resistant textured carbide coating which reduces or eliminates slippage. Improving the grip on workpieces enhances mill performance and can reduce cycle times.  In clamping tests, Carbinite has been shown to nearly double the gripping strength at equal clamping force.  Customers report increased grip and longer tool life.  Utilizing a process called Electro Spark Deposition (ESD), Carbinite can be added to hard or soft jaws after they are milled to customer requirements.  The wear resistant carbide alloys display exceptional bond strength without annealing or distortion.  This unique coating is ideal for hard or soft jaws, especially Vise Jaws and Step Jaws used for clamping applications.

Also performed to produce simultaneously desired changes in other properties or in the microstructure. The purposes of such changes include improvement of machinability, facilitation of cold work, improvement of mechanical or electrical properties and increase in stability of dimensions. Types of annealing include blue, black, box, bright, full, intermediate, isothermal, quench and recrystallization.

    Runs endmills and arbor-mounted milling cutters. Features include a head with a spindle that drives the cutters; a column, knee and table that provide motion in the three Cartesian axes; and a base that supports the components and houses the cutting-fluid pump and reservoir. The work is mounted on the table and fed into the rotating cutter or endmill to accomplish the milling steps; vertical milling machines also feed endmills into the work by means of a spindle-mounted quill. Models range from small manual machines to big bed-type and duplex mills. All take one of three basic forms: vertical, horizontal or convertible horizontal/vertical. Vertical machines may be knee-type (the table is mounted on a knee that can be elevated) or bed-type (the table is securely supported and only moves horizontally). In general, horizontal machines are bigger and more powerful, while vertical machines are lighter but more versatile and easier to set up and operate.
