White paper analyzes precision metal fabrication

Micrometal GmbH, an expert at the photochemical etching process, developed a white paper, “Unlocking the True Potential of Precision Metal Fabrication," which analyzes PCE.

Jochen Kern, head of sales & marketing at micrometal said, “micrometal’s PCE process has taken what was an already precise metal processing technology and taken it to the next level."

Many of today’s products are extremely complex and also very fragile. Geometric complexity and the requirement for extremely exacting tolerances and precision mean that PCE is in many instances the “only” viable technology. Whether in low, medium, or high-volume applications, the complexity of a part adds cost when using most traditional metal fabrication technologies. The complexity of a product requires complex tooling, and complex tooling means increased costs, increased chance of tool failure, and more time for satisfactory completion. For PCE it makes no difference how complex the geometry of the part is and costs and lead times do not increase with this increased complexity.

The white paper describes the unique aspects of micrometal’s PCE process and what that means for manufacturers. Readers will find out how micrometal’s PCE process works, what its advantages are in real manufacturing scenarios, how it compares to alternative processes, what are the key application areas and where its use is most appropriate. It also addresses the key questions that need to ask when locating a PCE supplier, as well as real-time case studies that describe customer experiences.

"We feel that this is an important reference and educative paper that will help to guide you as you seek to make more and more intricate and increasingly innovative metal parts and components.”

The white paper is presented in an accessible and interactive way, with a video link to an animated demonstration of how the technology works. It dives into the precise applications that PCE is ideal for. and the white paper incorporates a lighter touch by informing readers of just what impact PCE has on everyday lives.

“There is a lot of talk throughout the industry today about PCE, as it is a game-changer technology," said Kern.." We are operating in the ultra-precise area of manufacturing, and at micrometal, we are constantly innovating the PCE process to push the boundaries of what is possible.

"As a company, we can make more precise parts, achieve better tolerances, more repeatably, and at volume than any traditional PCE process, and in the white paper, we tell you how. Success in a product development program is as much a lesson in supplier selection as it is in technology selection.

"In the area of PCE, a supplier is so much more than just an etching company. It is a company with in-depth design experience, a material expert, a tooling expert, a validation expert, and of course a production and assembly expert. Importantly the White Paper shows you what you need to ask when selecting your PCE product development partner to optimize outcomes.”
