Star Cutter adds medical industry specialist to sales network

Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Star Cutter has added Shop Solutions LLC of Columbia City, Ind., to its sales network to expand the company’s presence within the medical industry.  Shop Solutions, owned by Matt Dahms, specializes in manufacturing solutions for surgical tools used in orthopedic applications.

“We are excited to have Matt (Dahms) representing our NXT tool grinders within the medical community,” said Brad Lawton, Star Cutter chairman and CEO. “His extensive knowledge of surgical tool manufacturing and connections within the industry will be a great benefit to us as well as to our customer base.”

Dahms has been involved in the cutting tool industry for over 35 years, with knowledge of surgical cutting devices that extends back to his tenure working for Zimmer BioMet in Warsaw, Ind., in the early 90s. He founded Oak View Tooling in 1996 and sold it 13 years later. In 2009, he started Shop Solutions to help companies enter the surgical cutting devices market and to improve grinding and other processes for manufacturers within this sector.

Star Cutter recently announced a partnership where its NXT 5-axis grinders come pre-set for easy installation of purchased Esprit CAM softwareThis packaged solution is aimed at assisting manufacturers of complex medical tooling, such as hip rasps, rotary files, bone files, and drills. Having certified Esprit post-processors on the NXT ensures faster launch and error-free program code every time.  Customers that already have Esprit can add the Star Cutter NXT’s digital machine package to their existing license and program the NXT using the software they already own.
