Single Source TechnologiesSingle Source Technologies, Auburn Hills, Mich., a global distributor of machine tool and consumable brands, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 30 to open its facility in New Britain, Conn., alongside Mayor Erin Stewart. The facility will serve as SST’s EDM consumable headquarters, now the largest EDM consumables company in North America. The facility gives SST the ability to better reach manufacturers seeking machine tools and EDM supplies and offer greater product diversity, including the full line of Makino machine tools.

Dating back to 1995, Global EDM Supplies forged its relationship in the New Britain community. Following the merger of Global EDM Supplies and SST and the coming together in this modern high-tech facility, the opportunity exists to grow the history, leadership and established philosophy around the consumables business within the region and beyond.

“Global EDM Supplies has deep roots in New Britain, and with that comes strong customer relationships and an experienced employee base that we wanted to sustain and grow. Even though we have a new name and new facility, we are the same people dedicated to fueling the manufacturing industry within this region,” said Tom Kucharski, consumable sales and operations manager at SST.

The 40,000-sq.-ft. space opened Nov. 18 and is designed to house the combined workforce of SST Consumables and Global EDM Supplies, including the service, application, sales and operation departments. Additionally, a Makino showroom is incorporated into the facility for machine demonstrations and training, along with an ample warehouse to ensure product availability and quick delivery.

“The ribbon-cutting of the new SST building marks a significant milestone for New Britain, as manufacturing is a stronghold in our community’s history and economy,” said Stewart. “Our goal is to support regional manufacturers and progress our economic development plan to build a world-class technology corridor.”

With a facility to showcase an expanded product portfolio, heightened application expertise and increased geographical reach, SST and Makino plan to offer valuable, comprehensive process support to current and prospective customers with the utmost quality and seamless business operations.

“The year 2017 marks a renewed vision for Makino and SST,” said Andre Ey, vice president of EDM sales at Makino Inc. “This facility is a step toward our long-term strategy to provide customers with total process solutions and ensure they get the best possible consumable products to run their operations effectivity. We are committed to nurturing our experienced personnel, growing our reach and offerings to help the manufacturing industry meet new economic and product demands.”
