U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson speaks at Performance Micro Tool in Janesville, Wis.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., recently visited Performance Micro Tool, a manufacturer of micro tools in Janesville, Wis.  The senator said he intends to give American manufacturing a boost by easing regulatory burdens and smoothing tax rules, which are among his major campaign platforms.

Citing numbers from a panel of the U.S. Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which he chairs, Johnson said federal regulatory costs have reached $2 trillion, or about $14,800 per American household.

“I think people need to be troubled by the fact that we have a crushing regulatory burden in America," Johnson said. "Our federal tax system is horribly complex. We need a far simpler, far more growth-oriented tax system.”
