Sandvik Coromant invests in the U.S. market

Sandvik Coromant is strengthening its position within the solid round tools segment and continues to invest in the important US market. Following investments in a new head office and the Sandvik Coromant Center in Mebane, North Carolina, the next step in Sandvik Coromant’s growth journey is to strengthen the strategic production site in Westminster, South Carolina, by transferring production and innovation of the solid round tools segment.

“By strengthening the Westminster site, we ensure high end production capabilities and a customer centric innovation approach,” said Sean Holt, president of Sandvik Coromant US. With the recent investments, Holt said that the company has two major sites with driving distance from each other, “where we can provide our customers and partners a fully integrated customer experience and state-of-the-art immersion into the latest technologies and machining applications.”

Sandvik Coromant has an aggressive growth strategy on the US market. solid round tools is one important segment where the company intends to increase market share and strengthen its leading position, he said.

The company is transferring more production of its solid round tools to the production facility in Westminster. Furthermore, Westminster is close to the research triangle with proximity to major customers within aerospace and automotive as well as Clemson University and other technical institutes.

The Sandvik Coromant Center in Mebane is a central hub for knowledge sharing, skills growth, R&D testing and customer projects. Using digital live machining, the Mebane center will play a key role in bringing people together both physically and virtually to advance metal cutting and digital machining around the world.

The transfer of production to Westminster will be in full operation in the second quarter of 2022. The new head office is now in operation and the new Sandvik Coromant Center in Mebane was inaugurated on September 21.
