The UP! App, the digital platform that connects industrial manufacturers to people that can service and repair their machinery, has committed an initial gift of $3,000 to the Columbus State Community College Foundation to support the school's engineering, manufacturing and Engineering Technology Pathway programs. These degrees can help prepare students to join the industrial manufacturing workforce as service technicians with a two-year degree or transfer for further education.

According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics' employment projections through 2028, the manufacturing sector is expected to see the most considerable decline. The UP! App is committed to investing in the future of the industry. Supporting technical schools and community colleges allows students to acquire the necessary skills and technical knowledge to enter the workforce upon graduation with less of a student debt burden and more avidity in the field of study.

Mark Gerko, chair of engineering and transportation technologies at Columbus State Community College, said, "The UP! App's gift will help students pursue a technical area that is in great need. This donation is a great example of the industry aiding students in preparing for careers."

Changes in technology have transformed the manufacturing and assembly process overall. Columbus State prepares students to understand and use modern systems allowing students to enter the workforce prepared to contribute to the evolved industry.

"We are proud to support the excellent trade education programs that Columbus State offers to prepare students for a future in manufacturing," said David Rhodes, The UP! App's director of sales and customer success. "As a leader in technical education in Ohio, Columbus State is focused on growing and inspiring the next generation of manufacturing talent that will help our network tackle the industry’s toughest challenges and shape the future of the field."

The UP! App Scholarship was formed by The Columbus State Community College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works with members of the community to secure resources to advance the mission, educational opportunities, and services for the students of Columbus State Community College.
