Milling Tools

KOMET’s new line of milling tools—comprised of more than 280 articles, including 63 new imperial (inch) and 63 new metric bodies—represents a strong offering as the toolmaker continues to expand its focus on milling products. The new indexable milling tools feature single- and double-sided inserts, as well as a variety of geometries and grades to match customers’ most challenging milling operations.

pL LEHMANN swissClamp modular system

Exsys Tool Inc., which is the exclusive supplier of pL LEHMANN rotary tables for North America, recently announced the expansion of its ultra-high precision products to include the pL LEHMANN swissClamp modular clamping system, according to the San Antonio, Fla.-based company. The modular clamping system reportedly allows operators to mount multiple workpieces on machine tool tables for uninterrupted production and unmanned operations.

SuperTuf-V Endmills

Regal Cutting Tools has developed a variable-helix endmill that minimizes deflection and reduces vibration. This tool can be run at heavy feed rates to outperform carbide at half the cost when milling titanium, stainless steel and nickel-base superalloys, according to the company.

TNC 640 Mill/Turn Control

The TNC 640, HEIDENHAIN’s mill/turn control, has added powerful new cycles and features. Enhanced graphics, interpolation turning and gear hobbing are some examples that will extend the versatility of the TNC 640 to new applications such as for machining large parts for power plants.

Pramet Force AD Milling Cutter

Dormer Pramet says the Pramet Force AD milling cutter is revolutionizing end user productivity with its versatility. This universal shoulder milling cutter features a differential pitch to reduce vibration and system noise. Combine solid performance with the cutter’s application with multiple materials and in harsh environmental conditions and users have the ideal universal shoulder milling product to fit their needs.

HMC Series Horizontal Machining Centers

Fives brings the combination live spindle and integrated contouring head (ICH) to its Cincinnati MEGA and Giddings & Lewis HMC Series horizontal machining centers, for expanded processing flexibility and dramatically reduced workpiece transfers and setups, with improved accuracy. The ICH's 220-mm (8.7-in) U-axis slide stroke provides the ability to produce small- or large-diameter features without head changing or manual intervention, allowing complex features to be machined in one setup with reduced cycle time and labor.

Mikron MILL P 800 U ST

The Mikron MILL P 800 U ST is the first machine tool from GF Machining Solutions LLC to combine milling and 4-axis simultaneous turning in a single clamping. The machine has a 20,000-rpm HSK T63 spindle. Water-cooled torque motors on the A and C axes ensure accuracy and stability, while speed is enhanced through the axes’ 0.3-second clamp time in any position.

Quad Force Machining

Millstar’s Quad Force Machining carbide cutting tools provide four cutting actions in one tool. The series uses advanced chipmaking technology that combines geometries for high-speed machining, trochoidal machining, plunge milling, and slide and slot milling, according to the company. The tools are suitable for cutting soft or hard tool and die steel, stainless steel and titanium. The multifunctional design eliminates the need for additional tools, decreases the number of tool changes and simplifies programming.

XSYTIN-1 ceramic insert

Greenleaf Corp.’s XSYTIN-1 is a phase-toughened ceramic insert grade that resists wear and thermal shock. It is for milling, turning and grooving heat-resistant superalloys, cast iron, nodular iron, ductile iron, steel and stainless steel at extreme feed rates and high cutting speeds, according to the company. It is suitable for interrupted cuts, scale removal, roughing, semifinishing and finishing.
