This year, Methods Machine Tools Inc., Sudbury, Massachusetts, a supplier of precision machine tools, automation and additive manufacturing solutions, celebrates its 60th anniversary.

A good friend and I have had a running argument lately about 3D printing. He says the fervor over additive manufacturing is, for the most part, hype, something he likes to call the boondoggle of the manufacturing century. He could be right.

GF Machining Solutions LLC, Lincolnshire, Ill., appointed several members to its sales and marketing team.

Cincinnati Inc., Harrison, Ohio, which manufactures laser-cutting, automation and other metal fabrication equipment, named Adam Yborra sales engineer for the Eastern U.S., specifically eastern Pennsylvania, south New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and northwest New York.

As part of the newly created 3D/Additive Manufacturing Pavilion at the FABTECH 2017 trade show held Nov. 6-9 at Chicago’s McCormick Place, Fabrisonic LLC’s exhibit showcased the company’s hybrid ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM) and subtractive machining capabilities.

One day everything in space will be made in space. That’s the ultimate goal for Made In Space Inc., said Matt Napoli, the company’s vice president of in-space operations, during his Oct. 25 keynote presentation titled “Made in Space: Manufacturing at 17,200mph” at The Quality Show. The trade show took place Oct. 24-26 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, Ill.

Sandvik Coromant hosted a “Digitalization on Machining” panel of leading digital manufacturing industry experts on Nov. 1, 2017, at the Center for Manufacturing Innovation in Greenville, S.C. Participants included William Sobel of VIMANA and representatives from GE Power, Cisco, Sandvik, Okuma, Microsoft, Mastercam, Rockwell Automation, MakeTime, Praemo and the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing.

Cincinnati Inc., Harrison, Ohio, named industry veteran Rakesh Kumar vice president of sales, marketing and service.

ITAMCO (Indiana Technology and Manufacturing Companies) is delivering components to the medical device industry made with their new EOS M 290 additive manufacturing printer. The EOS printer was delivered in June 2017 and ITAMCO was shipping components to a medical device supplier in August.
