All the 'news' that fits

One day everything in space will be made in space.

Similar to the parts manufacturers and equipment suppliers we reach, Cutting Tool Engineering strives for continuous improvement. This endeavor includes feature articles, columns and departments, as well as our website, with our most recent efforts focused on the news section.

To be frank, our news department isn’t always that newsy. Instead, the pieces tend to cover metalworking trends and technology developments in a short, concise manner and are about topics that we feel are not quite suitable for presentation as a feature. In other words, they’re brief reports. Therefore, we renamed the Industry News department Industry Briefs, starting with the October issue.

The improvement doesn’t just involve a cosmetic name change; we are also making a concerted effort to generate better ideas by reaching out to industry experts and conducting more research, because the best copy starts with the best idea. And our editorial team has been actively gathering ideas for some time.

Some of the briefs begin as online postings under the moniker “Editors’ Blog,” which can be found at ctemag.com under Headlines. A couple examples of ones I’ve recently written and which are included in the December issue’s Industry Briefs are “Manufacturing parts in outer space” and “‘Manufacturing Day’ every day.”

As always, I welcome your feedback and—most of all—your ideas.
