Abanaki Corporation manufactures a wide variety of coolant maintenance products including oil skimmers to reduce heavy smoke problems, control "rotten egg" odors, prevent tool wear, and extend coolant life. Abanaki products are proven in thousands of machine shops worldwide as the lowest-cost, most reliable way to remove oil from coolant and wash-water.
Disposing of oil laden coolant is very expensive; if the oil can be removed it makes it easier and less expensive to dispose of. In some situations, companies may be able to re-use the oil elsewhere or sell it for recycling doing their part to help clean our world. The oil-free coolant can then be recycled or re-used aiding in extending the life and usefulness of the coolant. This helps to reduce maintenance and coolant replacement costs.
In order to avoid EPA violations, many machine shops turn to an aqueous parts washer because of limits imposed by the EPA on the discharge of emissions and wastes. As the parts washer cleans the dirty parts, the oil becomes free-floating and can then be removed with a machine shop oil skimmer. Oil skimming has been the perfect solution to this issue as well as many others.
Abanaki has many types of oil skimmers to fit virtually any application. We offer off-the-shelf units including belt, disk and tube type oil skimmers for machining center applications as well as custom engineered designs.
Most of our oil skimmers can be equipped with different types of skimming media to better match the application. Different factors such as the type of oil, temperature, pH level, and chemical contaminants will determine the best skimmer media type.
Cutting fluids loaded with chips and swarf can be separated and filtered with a portable Chiperator while old coolant can be vacuumed using a Q-VAC 100 from sumps, tanks and drain pits for optimal equipment operations. Both the Chiperator and Q-VAC 100 are air driven with few moving wear parts.

TubeTastic!™ Oil Skimmer
The Abanaki TubeTastic! oil
skimmer can be used on machining centers with little or no access to the
coolant sump from above. This unit can skim oil from chip conveyors or
even totally enclosed machining centers! The TubeTastic can be easily
mounted on the side of virtually any machining center coolant sump. By
use of an existing opening or by making a small access cutout, the
collector tube runs through the surface of the coolant and collects the
unwanted oils. The oil then flows out the discharge tube into any waste
oil container for easy disposal. |
