Sumitomo celebrates plant expansion

Sumitomo Electric Carbide Inc., Mount Prospect, Ill., held a grand opening of its Tool Engineering Center (TEC) and plant expansion in New Berlin, Wis., on June 5. The plant expansion and development of a new facility provide increasing support and service to North American customers. The 55,000-sq.-ft. expansion has more than doubled the size of the facility. The New Berlin facility manufactures solid-carbide drills, replaceable carbide drills, regrinds, CBN inserts, PCD inserts and special round tools.

The grand opening celebration was held on June 5, 2013, to showcase the 10,000-sq.-ft. TEC facility and expansion. The Tool Engineering Center includes a large training room for multiple levels of training classes, machines to display cutting tool products and demonstrate on-the-machine training, and measuring tools. The facility also houses a lounge. The main objective of the TEC center is to train and inform customers and partners of Sumitomo products.
