Microfabrica launches educational miniaturization webinars

Additive-manufacturing parts producer Microfabrica Inc. is offering a series of miniaturization-focused webinars for design engineers, according to the company.

The webinars will review current state-of-the-art technologies and explore how MICA Freeform, Microfabrica’s proprietary additive manufacturing process, extends the capabilities of conventional micromachining for fabricating high precision metal parts at the sub-millimeter scale, according to the company.

MICA Freeform enables engineers to design parts with complex geometries at a scale not previously possible, the company reports.

The webinars will be led by Richard Chen, vice president of design engineering at Microfabrica Inc., Van Nuys, Calif.

The first webinar, “When state-of-the-art micromachining isn’t good enough,” will take place on Aug. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. (EDT).

In this webinar, Chen will discuss:

• current obstacles design engineers face in the drive to miniaturization,

• how MICA Freeform allows fabrication of complex features at a sub-millimeter scale while retaining high precision, and

• ideal design applications for the MICA Freeform process.

Registration is available here.

The webinar will be replayed after Aug. 23, 2012, here.
