CAMPS announces manufacturing internship program

The Center for Advanced Manufacturing Puget Sound (CAMPS) has started a pilot manufacturing summer internship program. The first program will focus on students participating in the 2012 Washington State First Robotics competition, in which teams compete to build the best robots.

CAMPS’ goal is to build relationships with local students and educational institutions to encourage higher education and careers in science, technology, engineering, math and manufacturing.

CAMPS’ interns will gain experience through exposure to local and global manufacturing companies located in the Puget Sound area of Washington. Participating manufacturing companies include the following:

•    Cashmere Molding
•    CIMtech
•    Composite Solutions
•    DTA Inc.
•    Flux Drive Inc.
•    GlobalTech Plastics
•    OmniFAB
•    Orion
•    Pac-Met
•    Pacific Machine Inc.
•    Red Dot
•    Tri-Tec Manufacturing
•    Western Integrated Technologies

CAMPS plans to eventually roll out this program out to all CAMPS members.

During the internship, students will have the opportunity to experience real-world manufacturing systems and technology, business processes and production support.

The interns will spend 10 to 12 weeks working with manufacturing technology and production practice. Each intern can chose their desired career path so the internship experience can be customized to them.

Students must be a FIRST Robotics team member and 16 years of age or older to qualify.
