Making magnesium auto parts

Video submitted by Fraunhofer Institute shows a testing geometry, or tank, being formed using a tool with different radii at die and punch for researching critical dimensions. The sheet--AZ31 by MgF Magnesium Flachprodukte GmbH--is formed into a tank with an electric-heated tool with a surface temperature of about 230˚C and a drawing depth of up to 130mm. Strain rate is greater than 40 percent.
