On April 1, 2014, Fountain Valley, Calif.-based manufacturer Mitsubishi Materials USA will consolidate two business units — Rock Tools and Hard Materials — into a new unit known as Engineered Carbide Products in an effort to improve operational efficiency, according to a letter to stakeholders released by the company.

Rock Tools products have been utilized in the mining, construction, and quarry industries, while Hard Materials products include carbide materials and wear-resistant tools such as carbide rolls, slot dies, and rotary die cutters, custom engineered for applications in various industries.

Customer service, logistics, and marketing for Engineered Carbide Products will be based in the company's Statesville, N.C. office, with distribution centers and warehouses near Toronto and Queretaro, Mexico, as well as coordination with central operations in Fountain Valley. The Rock Tools product inventory will continue to be stocked in Statesville, while the Hard Materials product inventory will remain in Fountain Valley, utilizing the already-established distribution center team, the letter stated.

The sales team of Gary Barnett, Katie Muhs, Chris Oakes  and Travis Timian will remain in place, while Chris Rivas has relocated to Charlotte, N.C., with the addition of John Carroll, Robert Desjardins and Melissa Dorsett to the customer service staff in Statesville.
